Frosty Morning in Orleans

November 3, 2010

Late summer’s little eggplants still hang from stems, and the last bright red cayenne peppers are hiding under overgrown arugula. Fall planted radishes and snow peas are slowly growing, and the giant red Russian kale and collard greens rule the far end of the garden like dark, leafy giants. Jack came traipsing through the garden this morning and bedazzled the scene with his sharp, crystalline coating. Frost, killer of tender herbs and executioner of flowers, has left its mark on the unwary. Sorrel bows it’s head and the marjoram is sunk.
